Mario Gomez is hands down the most influential player of Wolfsburg as the 31 year old German forward has scored 12 goals in 26 appearances which is way more than any other player of the relegation threatened club.
YunusMalli is 2nd
top goal-scorer of Wolfsburg with 6 goals scored so far.
There is a clear difference between Mario Gomez’s goal-scoring contributions and the rest of his teammates in this current season and for a club that is battling just to stay alive and survive for another year in the Bundesliga.
August 17 of 2016 was the date that Mario Gomez joined Wolfsburg as he penned a contract which extends until 2019 but the German player is believed to be interested in wanting to compete in either the Europa League or the Champions League and this is something that is clearly not going to be occurring with Wolfsburg in this season as they are just barely staying alive in the top tier German League.
The contract that Mario Gomez signed with Wolfsburg allows him to leave the German club earlier than 2019 but only if they fail to snatch a qualification spot to any European competition and this is what is currently happening. The 31 year old German attacker has a desire to perform in other highly rated tournaments which is not going to happen in this season with Wolfsburg and he has the chance to make an early exit from Wolfsburg and join a club where he can fulfill his objective. Former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez said that his current club Wolfsburg needs to improve quickly if they want to climb up the table.
The team has had an indifferent season so far, and Mario Gomez said that they are working on that.
Wolfsburg has a good squad at the moment, and many pundits cannot understand why the team is underperforming at the moment. Mario Gomez believes that there is a lack of confidence in the team and that the players are not playing freely on the pitch.
He said that the players need to learn how to play it simple and make sure that they do not overelaborate on the pitch. He said that the best match so far has been the first half of the game against Hertha Berlin where they were leading 2-1 at half time. Unfortunately for them, they will concede two goals in the second half and will end up losing the game 3-2. Continue reading Wolfsburg need to improve
Mario Gomez returned to German football with Wolfsburg in the summer.
Regarded as one of the best German strikers in the last few decades, his return was seen as a major force that would turn Wolfsburg into potential title contenders alongside Bayern Munich. The last time Gomez played in the Bundesliga was back in the 2013 season when he won the title with Bayern. Even though the striker has come back as a 31-year-old, he still was seen as someone who could contribute to Wolfsburg in a big way at least for the next couple of years.
However, few would have expected Gomez to struggle as much as he has in the opening few months of the season. The 31-year-old is still waiting for his first goal for Wolfsburg despite making six appearances in the league. Gomez claims that the lack of goals is not down to the poor performances, but because other factors like luck have come into play. After spending the last few seasons in Italy, Mario Gomez has managed to secure a return to German football after signing for Wolfsburg.
The German international has spent the entirety of his career in German football apart from the three years at Fiorentina. This was seen as a move that would reinvigorate his career after he had lost his place in the Bayern Munich team. It was not long ago that Gomez was the most expensive player in German football after his £ 35 million transfer from Stuttgart in 2009. He went on to make more than 170 appearances for Bayern in all competitions
This period was also highly successful for the player in terms of trophies since he managed to win several league titles and the Champions League medal. Gomez had earlier won only one major honour in his career before his move to Bayern. Since the transfer to Italy, his career has been on a downward spiral. There was even a loan move to Turkish football that came about last season. His interest in scoring record with Besiktas last season is thought to have been one of the main factors in convincing Wolfsburg to pay this transfer fee.

Besiktas president Fikret Orman has confirmed that the club are still retaining hope that they can bring in Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez before the end of the transfer window.
Turkish football may be in a state of despair due to the violence happening in the region, but the sport has continued to thrive even in the absence of peace. After having recently achieved immense success in the Turkish league, Besiktas are looking to build on this platform by continuously finishing ahead of teams like Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. The signing of a player like Gomez could significantly alter the stance of the club.
Gomez has been one of the consistent goalscorer’s in European football over the last decade. He was a regular for the German national team before really concentrating on club football following his move away from Bayern Munich in 2007. Over the years, there have been various rumours linking the forward with a move to some of them top clubs. This has certainly subsided since the player at 31 years of age is not an attractive proposition for the really top clubs. Besiktas, however, will appreciate the fact that Gomez will come into the squad adding a lot of experience.

World best footballer, Lionel Messi scored his 50th goal for his country in the 2-0 victory against Bolivia. The victory puts Argentina in a good place for world Cup qualification. The game played on Tuesday lifts Argentina a point ahead of Chile and Columbia.
Argentina has garnered eleven points from six games and sits third in the CONCACAF region. Uruguay and Ecuador both have 13 points each. They both place first and second respectively.
In the match against Bolivia, prolific defender Gabriel Mercado opened the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute. He was the same player who scored the winner in the keenly contested 2-1 away victory against Chile.
After Mercado’s goal, Ronald Eguino was fouled by Bolivia’s Ever Banega. Lionel Messi took the spot kick and scored his 499th career goal. With the International goal, he moved within six goals of Gabriel Batistuta’s record for Argentina.
After the game, Lionel Messi told TyC Sports: “This (campaign) is very long and what’s important is that we won and remain on course. I’m happy with goal number 50 but more because we won and this helps to keep growing.”
Argentina’s coach also praised the team for the effort to get maximum points in this round of games in the qualifiers. Gerardo Martino said: “It was fundamental to get the six points. I think we played a serious match and won well.” Continue reading MESSI SCORES 50TH INTERNATIONAL GOAL
Mario Gomez’s time in Fiorentina was underwhelming as the German attacker was plagued by injuries which kept him out of action for a significantly long period of time and he was eventually loaned out to Besikas on a season long deal and the Turkish club has the option of signing Gomez on a permanent deal.
Even though Gomez finished his last season by only scoring 4 goals in 20 appearances, this has not stopped Besiktas on taking a risk and signing Gomez on a loan deal and even though it has been less than 1 year since Gomez joined Besiktas, he has already made a huge impact after scoring 14 goals in 5 months with the Turkish side.
14 goals in 5 months might not seem like a very impressive feat but taking into consideration that Mario Gomez needed 2 years in order to score that same amount of goals, the German is going through a much better season which is good news for the German forward who is trying to spark his career back to life.
Besiktas has the option of turning the loan deal of Mario Gomez into a permanent one and for an extremely cheap price of only €1.000, all fingers are pointing towards Besiktas keeping hold of Mario Gomez beyond his current loan deal which is bad news for Manchester United as the Premier League club has been interested in signing Gomez for these past few transfer window but they have failed on signing him and Besiktas is now on an advantageous position of securing the services of a renowned player without having to spend a large amount of money.
