Fiorentina took a major step towards reaching the Champions League via the Europa League competition after managing to defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on two legs in the knockout stages.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Fiorentina were feeling confident that they can complete the job in front of their own supporters. Mario Gomez, who has been suffering from numerous injuries of late, turned out to be the hero of the second leg. He scored the club’s first goal in the 54th minute, while Chelsea’s on loan winger Mohamed Salah confirmed the victory with a 74th minute goal.
The arrival of Salah has been a major reason behind the recent spring in the step for Fiorentina. They have been able to close the gap to third placed Napoli. Another victory this weekend when they take on Inter Milan will eliminate one of their rivals for the Champions League spots. Gomez is almost certain to lead the line up and he is certainly benefiting from the presence of Salah. The Egyptian winger has been a breath of fresh air and he has already scored three goals in four league matches.
