UNITED MOVE UNLIKELY

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to join Premier league giants Manchester United in the summer according to his agent, much to the chagrin of fans who wanted to buy autographed man utd merchandise with his name on it.

This news almost confirms the fact that the 24-year-old Polish international is heading to Bayern Munich. This will result in the departure of German international Mario Gomez, who has found first-team opportunities limited at the club this season.

Gomez has been one of the first-team regulars at Bayern Munich since his £ 27 million move from Stuttgart a few years ago, but he recently lost his place to summer signing Mandžukić.

After being injured in the early part of the season, Gomez have found it hard to force his way back into the first-team due to the impressive form of the 26-year-old. Mandžukić has managed to score 15 goals in just 22 matches for Bayern Munich this season, while Gomez has made just 18 appearances. He has scored 10 goals in these matches. Even though Guardiola is going to arrive in the summer, Gomez thinks that his situation is not going to improve. As a result, the 27-year-old is willing to look at other options with several clubs like Chelsea interested in securing his signature.

His departure will almost be confirmed if Lewandowski arrives at the club. Bayern have been the favourites for his signature for quite a while.

“I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future,” said Lewandowski’s agent in a recent interview to the Guardian. Juventus are also interested in signing Lewandowski, who is out of contract at the end of next season. He is valued at around £ 25 million right now.

17 POINTS CLEAR

Friday, March 15th, 2013

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has helped his team to 17 points clear at the top of the table with his goal against Hoffenheim. Bayern Munich were coming into the weekend’s match against Hoffenheim on the back of a spectacular run of form, which has seen them lose only once this season.

The team has also conceded just eight goals in 24 league matches. This has allowed them to open a massive advantage at the top of the table over second placed Borussia Dortmund. They are on course to lift the Bundesliga title a few months before the end of the campaign itself. (more…)

WORLDS BEST?

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has been regarded as one of the best in the world over the last couple of years. He has helped the Bayern Munich team reach the Champions league final last season, but there have been growing reports that the club are looking to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international has been one of the most wanted strikers in recent years, with many clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid looking at the possibility of signing him. However, it is believed that Bayern Munich are in pole position due to the fact that Lewandowski does not want to change of country.

The 24-year-old feels extremely settled in German football, and he is open to the possibility of talking with Bayern Munich over a move in the summer. The fact that he is out of contract in just over 12 months means that Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to command a high fee for his services. As a result, it looks increasingly likely that Gomez will have to fight for his place at Bayern Munich next season, but the German international has said that he is not worried about the possibility of a challenge for his first-team spot.

“I have no fear of anyone. The club must commit themselves clearly and tell us what’s going on. If it is so, then it is so. But it’s not my job to comment on speculation. I can only say that all the strikers feel very comfortable here in Munich. We will see what happens,” said the former Stuttgart striker who moved to Bayern Munich in the £ 26 million deal a few years ago. After missing the start of the season due to an injury, the striker has been influential for the club over the last few weeks.

GOMEZ BACK SOON

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

The Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has said that the club will be able to welcome the star striker Mario Gomez back from injury in the next few days. The German international has been one of the best players for Bayern Munich over the last few years since his £ 26 million move from Stuttgart. However, he has been missing from the first team action at the start of this new season due to the ankle injury he suffered in the pre-season tournaments. This has kept him out of action for more than three months now. However, Bayern Munich will be ready to bring him back to the first-team according to the manager Jupp Heynckes.

The 27-year-old was one of the crucial reasons for Bayern Munich coming extremely close to winning three major trophies last season. Even though they finished the season empty-handed, the signs look extremely promising for this season. They are currently top of the Bundesliga table with a four point advantage over the second placed team Schalke. Their main challengers over the last three seasons Borussia Dortmund are well below the chasing pack. In this situation, the return of Gomez will add to the strength of the team according to the Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes.

“He has trained very well. He came through pain free and I think that and he could finish the first part of the final training session with the team on Saturday, but no one can forecast when he will be back in the squad. For Sunday, there’s no way, because he has not trained with the ball and the team. I hope that he’ll be back training with the ball soon. He will possibly be available for the DFB-Pokal again against Kaiserslautern next Wednesday,” said the manager ahead of this weekend’s encounter.
