WEST HAM LOOKING AT CELTA VIGO ACE
West Ham are reportedly mulling an offer for Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez in the summer. West Ham were initially linked to the Uruguay international during the January transfer window after the transfer shocker from Marko Arnautovic.
Mazi Gomez is a player highly rated by Manuel Pellegrini as he boasts strength, Aerial ability and efficiency in front of goal which reminds many of German forward Mario Gomez. Gomez has a buyout clause of £45 million which is believed to have hindered the move.
However, the Hammers could get a discount fee for the player in the summer if certain conditions are met. Gomez release clause is set to be reduced to £25 million if the club is relegated at the end of the season. Celta Vigo are two points from safety with less than nine matches remaining in the league and this scenario could still happen.
If the Spanish club are relegated West Ham would consider the transfer as a no brainer as the player is 22 years old and has a long career ahead of him. However, West Ham are understood to have competition from some other top clubs over the player’s signature.
Liverpool, Tottenham and Barcelona are monitoring the player’s situation and could make bids in the summer. However, West Ham has the advantage as they can offer him more playing time with a decent wage contract.
West Ham would be confident of completing the transfer regardless of the situation at the end of the season. The English side is expected to offload Andy Caroll and Lucas Perez as part of the summer clearout.
