GOMEZ SET TO STAY
Bayern Munich are close to completing negotiations for the contract extension of their star striker Mario Gomez. It is thought that the former Stuttgart striker will be signing a new contract worth around € 45 million soon.
The current contract for the star striker will be coming to an end in the summer of 2013. In order to prevent him from being able to leave the club on a free transfer and also in order to ensure that they challenge for the major trophies, Bayern Munich have decided to offer this mega deal to the striker who is regarded to be on par with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie.
The current contract pays Mario Gomez around € 7 million per year, while the new contract is expected to fetch him around € 9 million per year. This substantial increase in the pay has been offered due to the fact that the striker has been one of the main reasons for Bayern Munich still having an outside chance of winning the title this season.
Despite starting the season with a bang, Bayern Munich have tailed off in recent weeks leaving the likes of Borussia Dortmund with a great opportunity to win the title. However, Bayern Munich are still in the Champions League and will be looking to progress into the quarter-finals of the same.
“I want to be part of this team in the coming years,” Mario Gomez recently said in an interview with the Betfair Football Tips website. His boss, Christian Nerlinger returned the platitude days later when he said “we know that Mario is very comfortable in Munich, and we awant to keep him here.”
So far, the striker has scored 18 goals in just 23 appearances, thus helping Bayern Munich to the second place in the table. His goals have also fired Germany to the top of the Euro 2012 Betting odds table, with the Deutsche Mannschaft becoming favourites to land the trophy ahead of the much-celebrated Spanish side.
