GERMAN IS BEST LEAGUE

Friday, December 21st, 2012

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has said that he feels that the German league is right now the best league across Europe due to the performances of the German club’s in the Premier European competition – the Champions League. This season the competition has been dominated by the German clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Despite being an extremely tough groups, both these clubs have been able to dominate their respective groups and come out of them as the winners. This coupled with the failure of the English Premier league has made Gomez believes that the German league is the best right now.

After losing out on the title for the last two seasons, Bayern Munich are now the favourites to lift the Bundesliga title this season. They are already 11 points ahead of their nearest rival in the table, as they have managed to go into the Christmas break with one hand on the title already. However, Gomez has said that the players should not be complacent when the second half of the season begins after a short break. Aside from the Bavarian Giants, Schalke have also qualified for the last 16 stage of the Champions League. Bayern Munich currently have 41 points from the 16 matches played so far in the competition.

“All [three German teams] deserved to win their groups. It’s nice to see that the Bundesliga is alive and catching up with the very best leagues. In terms of strength across the board, I’d even say it’s the best at the moment. The top teams are all performing strongly in Europe,” said Mario Gomez. The striker was extremely influential for Bayern Munich in the recent win over Augsburg. After missing out on the early part of the campaign, the striker is back fit and ready for the rest of the season.

GOMEZ WILL HELP US

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

The German national team manager Joachim Loew has said that Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is largely responsible if Germany make it into the quarter-final stage of the Euro 2012 with ease. Germany were in the dreaded group of death that contained the likes of Portugal and the Netherlands.

However, after their two wins in the opening two matches of the campaign, they just need one point in order to confirm their entry into the quarter finals of the competition. Germany will be taking on Denmark in the final group match of the competition.

It has been a tremendous reason for the Bayern Munich striker, who has scored 40 goals in all competitions. Even though he has failed to lift any major trophy with the club this season, he will be hoping for much better things with his national team. Germany are one of the favourites to win the Euro 2012 along with holders Spain. However, after the first two matches of the tournament, it looks like Germany are the overwhelming favourites due to their strength in depth and quality. Mario Gomez is one of the main reasons for them to have a great start to the campaign, and manager Joachim Loew was quick to praise his quality.

“Mario Gomez has always been a fighter type. He has pulled back his form and these two goals will do him good for sure. The group winner would be important because we can stay in Gdansk and that would probably be to our advantage in the quarter-finals,” added Joachim Loew after the 2-1 win over Netherlands. Their defeat also meant that Netherlands have been all but eliminated from the Euro 2012 following their two defeats in the opening matches. The Dutch only have a slight chance of being able to qualify for the quarter finals.

Sparkling Germany much more than Efficient

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Germany’s impressive 4-2 quarter-final victory over Greece at Euro 2012 – without three first-choice players – has the other countries in the tournament running scared.

And rightly so; the efficiency of German teams has become a footballing cliché, but labelling the current side as such would do Joachim Low’s side a major disservice.

They now look the main men in what is proving to be one of the most entertaining major finals for several years.
After a quiet and somewhat underwhelming start in the group – the 1-0 win over Portugal was dogged, determined but ruthless – Germany have built momentum, and appear best placed to win their first trophy since Euro 96.

Narrow Victories over the Netherlands and Denmark confirmed their qualification as group winners and, in the process, they achieved what no other country competing in the tournament could do by winning all three preliminary games.
If that was not enough to alert Spain, Italy, and even England, to their threat in Poland and Ukraine, then their thrilling destruction of an albeit limited Greek outfit certainly did. (more…)

GOMEZ vs KLOSE

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

With the much anticipated Euro 2012 fast approaching, there has been a lot of tension between Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez. The two strikers have been in excellent form for the club, which has promoted talk that they will be facing intense competition between each other.

However, Maria Gomez has been quick to point out that the competition talk between the two is nothing more than media play and that they both complement each other pretty well. He also said that the competition between the two, if there is any, will be beneficial to the German national team.

Germany have been using the 4-5-1 formation for many years now. In such a formation, it would be tough to see both Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose playing in the same team. However, it is extremely tough to drop Miroslav Klose given the way he has been playing in the last few years, despite his age. Mario Gomez, on the other hand, has been distinctly better at club level than at international level. This has promoted the competition between the two, but Mario Gomez has downplayed any such competition between the two. “I’m delighted for him. It wasn’t easy for him at Bayern, so it’s wonderful for him now, because I know how important goals are for a striker. And I think he still has a vital role to play, both for his club and his country,” Mario Gomez said regarding Miroslav Klose.

Miroslav Klose has been a revelation in Italy. Lazio have been doing extremely well since Miroslav Klose moved to Italy after struggling to break through into the Bayern Munich team, which was performing exceptionally well with Mario Gomez up front. Even this season, Mario Gomez has been in sensational form. So far, Mario Gomez has scored a total of 21 goals in all competitions.
