UNITED MOVE UNLIKELY

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to join Premier league giants Manchester United in the summer according to his agent, much to the chagrin of fans who wanted to buy autographed man utd merchandise with his name on it.

This news almost confirms the fact that the 24-year-old Polish international is heading to Bayern Munich. This will result in the departure of German international Mario Gomez, who has found first-team opportunities limited at the club this season.

Gomez has been one of the first-team regulars at Bayern Munich since his £ 27 million move from Stuttgart a few years ago, but he recently lost his place to summer signing Mandžukić.

After being injured in the early part of the season, Gomez have found it hard to force his way back into the first-team due to the impressive form of the 26-year-old. Mandžukić has managed to score 15 goals in just 22 matches for Bayern Munich this season, while Gomez has made just 18 appearances. He has scored 10 goals in these matches. Even though Guardiola is going to arrive in the summer, Gomez thinks that his situation is not going to improve. As a result, the 27-year-old is willing to look at other options with several clubs like Chelsea interested in securing his signature.

His departure will almost be confirmed if Lewandowski arrives at the club. Bayern have been the favourites for his signature for quite a while.

“I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future,” said Lewandowski’s agent in a recent interview to the Guardian. Juventus are also interested in signing Lewandowski, who is out of contract at the end of next season. He is valued at around £ 25 million right now.

17 POINTS CLEAR

Friday, March 15th, 2013

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has helped his team to 17 points clear at the top of the table with his goal against Hoffenheim. Bayern Munich were coming into the weekend’s match against Hoffenheim on the back of a spectacular run of form, which has seen them lose only once this season.

The team has also conceded just eight goals in 24 league matches. This has allowed them to open a massive advantage at the top of the table over second placed Borussia Dortmund. They are on course to lift the Bundesliga title a few months before the end of the campaign itself. (more…)

WORLDS BEST?

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has been regarded as one of the best in the world over the last couple of years. He has helped the Bayern Munich team reach the Champions league final last season, but there have been growing reports that the club are looking to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international has been one of the most wanted strikers in recent years, with many clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid looking at the possibility of signing him. However, it is believed that Bayern Munich are in pole position due to the fact that Lewandowski does not want to change of country.

The 24-year-old feels extremely settled in German football, and he is open to the possibility of talking with Bayern Munich over a move in the summer. The fact that he is out of contract in just over 12 months means that Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to command a high fee for his services. As a result, it looks increasingly likely that Gomez will have to fight for his place at Bayern Munich next season, but the German international has said that he is not worried about the possibility of a challenge for his first-team spot.

“I have no fear of anyone. The club must commit themselves clearly and tell us what’s going on. If it is so, then it is so. But it’s not my job to comment on speculation. I can only say that all the strikers feel very comfortable here in Munich. We will see what happens,” said the former Stuttgart striker who moved to Bayern Munich in the £ 26 million deal a few years ago. After missing the start of the season due to an injury, the striker has been influential for the club over the last few weeks.

HEYNCKES HAPPY

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

The Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has said that he is extremely happy with the performance of his team despite dropping two points in the recent Bundesliga match against Borussia Moenchengladbach. Bayern Munich have been the team to beat in the Bundesliga this season and they are on course to lifting the first league title after a gap of three years. They already have a nine-point advantage over the second-placed team Bayern Leverkusen. Hence, the manager Heynckes was not too worried with the 1-1 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach during the weekend. This draw means that Bayern Munich have now dropped four points in the last three matches.

However, the performance of the team was good enough to suggest that they will be able to maintain their position at the top of the table in the second half of the season as well. After this weekend, the German league will be going on a break and will resume only in the third week of January. Bayern Munich have lost only one match so far this season, while they have scored a blistering 44 goals in the league. They have also conceded just seven goals in the 17 matches played so far. Many have predicted that they would win the title as early as in March.

“I am very happy, even though we only drew 1-1. We dictated the game for 90 minutes, especially in the second half. We played outstandingly well and did not give Borussia an opportunity to score. It was definitely not easy to defend against them, but I think that we deserved to win because of our second-half performance. Ter Stegen was the best player on the pitch, he was outstanding,” said the Bayern Munich manager. Pressure was on Heynckes to deliver the title this season and he seems to be delivering so far.

GERMAN IS BEST LEAGUE

Friday, December 21st, 2012

The Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has said that he feels that the German league is right now the best league across Europe due to the performances of the German club’s in the Premier European competition – the Champions League. This season the competition has been dominated by the German clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Despite being an extremely tough groups, both these clubs have been able to dominate their respective groups and come out of them as the winners. This coupled with the failure of the English Premier league has made Gomez believes that the German league is the best right now.

After losing out on the title for the last two seasons, Bayern Munich are now the favourites to lift the Bundesliga title this season. They are already 11 points ahead of their nearest rival in the table, as they have managed to go into the Christmas break with one hand on the title already. However, Gomez has said that the players should not be complacent when the second half of the season begins after a short break. Aside from the Bavarian Giants, Schalke have also qualified for the last 16 stage of the Champions League. Bayern Munich currently have 41 points from the 16 matches played so far in the competition.

“All [three German teams] deserved to win their groups. It’s nice to see that the Bundesliga is alive and catching up with the very best leagues. In terms of strength across the board, I’d even say it’s the best at the moment. The top teams are all performing strongly in Europe,” said Mario Gomez. The striker was extremely influential for Bayern Munich in the recent win over Augsburg. After missing out on the early part of the campaign, the striker is back fit and ready for the rest of the season.

GOMEZ BACK SOON

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

The Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has said that the club will be able to welcome the star striker Mario Gomez back from injury in the next few days. The German international has been one of the best players for Bayern Munich over the last few years since his £ 26 million move from Stuttgart. However, he has been missing from the first team action at the start of this new season due to the ankle injury he suffered in the pre-season tournaments. This has kept him out of action for more than three months now. However, Bayern Munich will be ready to bring him back to the first-team according to the manager Jupp Heynckes.

The 27-year-old was one of the crucial reasons for Bayern Munich coming extremely close to winning three major trophies last season. Even though they finished the season empty-handed, the signs look extremely promising for this season. They are currently top of the Bundesliga table with a four point advantage over the second placed team Schalke. Their main challengers over the last three seasons Borussia Dortmund are well below the chasing pack. In this situation, the return of Gomez will add to the strength of the team according to the Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes.

“He has trained very well. He came through pain free and I think that and he could finish the first part of the final training session with the team on Saturday, but no one can forecast when he will be back in the squad. For Sunday, there’s no way, because he has not trained with the ball and the team. I hope that he’ll be back training with the ball soon. He will possibly be available for the DFB-Pokal again against Kaiserslautern next Wednesday,” said the manager ahead of this weekend’s encounter.

GOMEZ EXCITED FOR RETURN

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

The German international and Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has said that he cannot wait for the return to the first team action. The 27-year-old has missed the first few matches of the pre-season and the season itself due to an injury. He suffered the injury in the pre-season. As a result, he had to undergo a minor operation. Now, he is expected to return to the first-team action in the next few weeks. He has spent the last six weeks in the injury table, which has been very frustrating according to the former Stuttgart man.

Mario Gomez is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world and he scored more than 35 goals in all competitions for the German club last season. He is once again expected to be the spearhead of the Bayern Munich attack this season, despite the fact that the club has signed a few players like Claudio Pizarro. They were expected to replace the striker in the first few weeks of the season. Now, that the star striker is back from injury, he is expected to go straight into the first-team action. Mario Gomez scored 26 goals in the league alone last season.

Despite being an excellent season personally, the striker recently expressed his disappointment at not being able to win any major title. Even more disappointing for the 27-year-old was the fact that Bayern Munich managed to go extremely close to winning a title, but did not manage to win at least one. They lost in the league to Dortmund, while it was a similar case in the DFB Polkal cup as well. They were very confident of winning the Champions League title on the home ground, but were beaten by Chelsea 4-3 on penalties in the final of the competition.

LAUGHABLE GOMEZ

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

The former Stuttgart chief Erwin Staudt has said that the comments made by the Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness about the former Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez are extremely laughable.

The Bayern Munich president recently criticised the 27-year-old striker by saying that his reputation makes him much more important than he really is to the team. He has also said that Mario Gomez is not as good as his reputation might suggest. Mario Gomez has become one of the best strikers in the world since joining Bayern Munich a few seasons ago. He played in more than 150 matches for Stuttgart before joining Bayern Munich.

The German giant finished as the runners up in all the three major competitions they participated in last season, which has led to criticism from various quarters for the team and the manager.

The Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has become the latest to criticise one of the members of the team. Mario Gomez has become the victim for his criticism this time around. However, the former Stuttgart chief Erwin Staudt does not agree with the comments made by the Bayern Munich president and has said that Gomez is one of the best strikers in the world. There has been talk on a certain Liverpool forum that Gomez might fancy a move to the Premier League.

“We all know Gomez’s potential. Throwing the hammer at him is needless and unnecessary, to say the least. Yes, it admittedly might be a newer form of motivation aimed at spurring him on, but Mario is a really good guy who knows what he’s got,” said Erwin Staudt in response to the comments made by Uli Hoeness. Mario Gomez has an excellent record for goal scoring with Bayern Munich in the last few seasons. In just 142 appearances, he has scored more than 94 goals for the Bundesliga club and has also lifted four titles in the last four seasons.

GOMEZ MUST FIGHT

Friday, July 27th, 2012

The sporting director of Bayern Munich, Sammer, has said that the German football player, Mario Gomez has to fight hard for his place in the side in the upcoming season. He said that the team is full of talented players and there is a healthy competition between the players for the places in the side. There are many new players brought into the side this time around and the team is dedicated to win a trophy in the upcoming season.

Gomez performed brilliantly in the last season. He played in 52 matches in the last season and scored 41 goals. He displayed the same kind of form in the European championship and scored three goals before Bayern was defeated in the semi-final. Sammer said that Gomez has been an asset for the side and he has performed amazingly well in the last two seasons. He is a key member of the side. But, at the same time, he said that with so many great players in the squad, Gomez might not begin every match in the upcoming season.

As per Sammer, there is no doubt that Gomez is a high quality player and a match winner. In the previous seasons, Bayern didn’t have so many options. But, with the inclusion of some new players in the side such as Mario Mandzukic, Tom Starke, Claudio Pizarro and Xherdan Shaqiri, the team would have a lot of options in the next season. According to Sammer, there are certain situations, when a particular player is more suitable than the other. So, every player has a definite role to play in the team.

Meanwhile, Mario Gomez has said that it is always good to have healthy competition between the players in the side. It brings the best out of the players. Gomez said that whenever he played for Bayern, he tried to give his best. And, whenever, he will get a chance to play in the upcoming season, he would continue to do the same.

GOMEZ WILL HELP US

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

The German national team manager Joachim Loew has said that Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is largely responsible if Germany make it into the quarter-final stage of the Euro 2012 with ease. Germany were in the dreaded group of death that contained the likes of Portugal and the Netherlands.

However, after their two wins in the opening two matches of the campaign, they just need one point in order to confirm their entry into the quarter finals of the competition. Germany will be taking on Denmark in the final group match of the competition.

It has been a tremendous reason for the Bayern Munich striker, who has scored 40 goals in all competitions. Even though he has failed to lift any major trophy with the club this season, he will be hoping for much better things with his national team. Germany are one of the favourites to win the Euro 2012 along with holders Spain. However, after the first two matches of the tournament, it looks like Germany are the overwhelming favourites due to their strength in depth and quality. Mario Gomez is one of the main reasons for them to have a great start to the campaign, and manager Joachim Loew was quick to praise his quality.

“Mario Gomez has always been a fighter type. He has pulled back his form and these two goals will do him good for sure. The group winner would be important because we can stay in Gdansk and that would probably be to our advantage in the quarter-finals,” added Joachim Loew after the 2-1 win over Netherlands. Their defeat also meant that Netherlands have been all but eliminated from the Euro 2012 following their two defeats in the opening matches. The Dutch only have a slight chance of being able to qualify for the quarter finals.
